Frequently Asked Questions
How many people does ICHC serve?
Last fiscal year (2008-2009) ICHC had approximately 19,971 patient visits. Within five years we anticipate providing 35,000 patient visits annually.
Where do our patients come from?
ICHC does not have population restrictions (e.g., residential boundaries or restrictions, health limitations or requirements, or language restrictions/policies) and therefore does not limit access to care to a designated geographical area of service. Approximately 46% of our patients come from surrounding counties, including Adams, Arapahoe, and Jefferson counties.
Is there anyone ICHC won’t treat?
No, we will treat anyone that we can. Our services are limited only by physical capacities. Therefore, the center actively collaborates and partners with multiple health care providers and other entities to help address the vast array of needs that exceed our ability to serve.
How is ICHC different from other non-profit health centers?
ICHC is not a federally qualified health center (FQHC), which means we do not receive federal operating support. Most of our revenue is generated directly from our patients (over 40%), private donations, and grants. Also, we have no geographical restrictions.
How do patients pay for services?
Inner City Health Center’s mission is to serve the uninsured. Approximately 80% of our patients are entirely without medical or dental insurance. However, we are not a “free clinic.” Our uninsured patients pay on a sliding fee scale, based on the income and number of people residing in a household. Each person should be prepared to pay for care received at the time of service. Approximately 20% of our patients are Medicare/Medicaid recipients.
Is ICHC the only faith-based healthcare clinic in Denver?
No, but it is the largest independent faith-based clinic and the only one that provides both comprehensive primary medical and dental healthcare. It is also the only private, unaffiliated clinic that provides dental care to the entire family.
How many staff and volunteers does ICHC have?
Currently ICHC has over 80 volunteers that perform duties in the medical, dental, and administrative departments. The Center currently employs 51 staff members.
How much does it cost to operate ICHC each year? How much of this is supported through gifts?
In 2008 it cost ICHC approximately $3.2 million to operate the Center. Approximately $2 million of operating expenses was supported through charitable gifts. Of every gift donated, $ .83 goes to patient care with only $ .17 to administration and development. During fiscal year 2008, the clinic provided over $1 million in Uncompensated Care.
Does ICHC receive public funds or government support?
Inner City Health Center receives reimbursement for its care of Medicaid/Medicare patients. However, the clinic receives no direct operating support from the federal government. Inner City Health Center was also one of several clinics throughout the State that qualified for distribution from the Primary Care Fund, inaugurated in 2005 as a result of Amendment 35.
