Ride On, Ride Strong

Healing Wheels

On Saturday, June 13, 2009 ICHC hosted its First Healing Wheels Bike Event. With several different routes to choose from, participation was open to anyone who loves to ride, from the serious and experienced cyclists to families who bike for fun. Healing Wheels was created as a collaborative event developed by cyclists for cyclists as an opportunity to experience an exciting training cycling event early in the season.

Healing Wheels

As the sun rose early in the morning, riders were greeted by volunteers and a light breakfast catered by Corner Bakery. With Mother Nature’s cooperation, riders were able to take off on selected routes with a sunny background. After riders completed their rides, they returned to the tented post-event celebration and enjoyed music from Confluence Ministries, lunch from Famous Dave’s Barbeque and a huge selection of cool beverages. Participants were awe-struck by the beauty of the routes and had a blast experiencing the wonderful outdoors of Colorado.

Healing Wheels

ICHC extends our deepest gratitude and thanks to the Healing Wheels 2009 Event Planning Committee, Bandimere Speedway, all of our sponsors and supporters, and the volunteers who helped make the event happen! We also want to thank all of the individuals who came out to ride, we are extremely grateful for the foundation you helped us build!

Our 11th annual Community Kids Bike Fair hosted on Saturday, May 16th was another HUGE success!

Kids Fair

With the help of a wonderful volunteer committee, Pax Christi Church, St Thomas Moore church, Our Lady of Loreto church, Saddle Ranch Elementary, El Dorado Elementary, Kaiser Permanente, ADP, Transwestern Management Properties and generous individuals from all over the city, we were able to receive over 400 donated bikes and gave them to the to the kids of Harrington Elementary.

Kids Fair

Along with a bike, the kids received new helmets and locks and had the opportunity to decorate and individualize their new bike in our “flare” station. St. Charles Recreation Center came and offered free summer pool passes. Ervin Johnson, Denver Nuggets Ambassador, came and signed basketball cards. Confluence Ministries came and played music for everyone to enjoy. A new addition this year was offering health screenings to the older youth and parents who attended the fair. Inner City’s outreach ministry, Congregational Health Ministry, volunteered their time and offered a variety of health screenings. Fun raffle prizes included amusement park admissions, multiple sporting event tickets, gift certificates and t-shirts, just to name a few.

Kids Fair

Thank you to all our volunteers who helped make this day special, including Pathways Ministries, the parishioners of St Mark, The Knights of Columbus, several Optimist Club members from around the metro area and Recycle Bicycles. Thank you to the vendors who also helped to offer donated food and beverages, including Deep Rock Water, Subway and Starbucks.

A New Beginning!

New Location

Inner City Health Center has been providing quality medical and dental care for the poor and uninsured from our clinic at 3405 Downing Street in the Five Points Neighborhood since December 1983.

On January 12, 2009, ICHC opened the doors of our new facility at 3800 York Street. Patients were greeted by the familiar smiling faces of the same staff
they have come to know so well over the years. There was an energy and excitement that encompassed the new clinic all day long! As you know, the number of uninsured Coloradoans keeps growing. There are now over 800,000 Colorado residents that will go without the benefit of health insurance this year. This new facility will effectively double our capacity and our ability to serve the
growing number of uninsured. In addition to expanded medical and dental care, the new facility will allow Inner City Health Center to present seminars on an ongoing basis to individuals and families. Seminars will include oral care and
prevention, nutrition, childhood obesity, the importance of immunizations, and other topics that help diminish the cost burden of dental and medical care and promote a healthy community.
