Jim Shira, MD

Jim Shira is a retired pediatrician and has been a member of the Inner City Health Center board since 1999. He was born and raised in Framingham, Massachusetts and then moved to New Hampshire for undergraduate schooling, later he attended Tufts University for medical school. Jim moved to Denver in 1959 for pediatric residency training at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center. He served in the army for 20 years and soon there after joined the team at Children’s Hospital. Currently Jim works part time at the Children’s Hospital. In his free time Jim enjoys gardening, skiing, golfing, and spending time with his family; including his wife of 52 years, 3 sons, 3 daughters-in-law and 4 grandchildren.
Jim was inspired to become a board member of Inner City Health Center for several reasons: the mission – to serve the underserved, the dedication to practicing and emphasizing Christian principles without being overbearing, and the staff. He has had the privilege of serving on short term mission trips to Ecuador, Honduras, Mongolia, Republic of Congo and Romania.
